is an exciting opportunity for Alliance for Educational Justice (AEJ) Youth Justice Corps members to learn and sharpen their skills as restorative justice practitioners in their schools and communities to build peace, interrupt state violence and #EndWarOnYouth

Every victory against the school-to-prison pipeline creates more space for restorative justice in our schools. In cities like New York, Miami, Philadelphia, Denver, Chicago, New Orleans and Oakland, Black and Brown, LGBQT, Immigrant & Muslim youth have started to dismantle punitive school discipline and transform it to restorative justice. When we chant "Who's schools!!?!! Our schools!!! do we really mean it? Who should run the restorative justice program in our schools?

We are looking for 15 Youth Justice Corp (YJC) members to train to become restorative justice practitioners and a part of the Alliance's National YJC Restorative Justice team. The year long Apprenticeship will include two national trainings and site visits to cities to experience restorative justice in action. The national team will teach and support other YJC youth and their AEJ organizations to deepen our collective expertise as restorative justice practitioners as well as provide training and technical assistance to other organizations, alliances and agencies. Can you imagine a school with mood detectors, instead of metal detectors like George Carter III did? He re-imagined schools where instead of being suspended or arrested, you got send to pick strawberries in the school's garden. George Carter III was an AEJ youth leader from rethink-nola who was murdered on his way to catch his 7 am school bus by another youth in an act of intercommunal violence. The circumstances of his murder and postmortem criminalization is one of the inspirations of our national movement to end the war on youth #EndWarOnYouth and for whom this apprenticeship is named after. And like him, we dare to transform where others only seek reform. If you have a radical imagination and dare to dream out loud, you are the visionary we are looking for apply for the apprenticeship Criteria:
- Be a youth between the age of 14-21
- A member of an organization part of the Alliance for Educational Justice*
- Dedicated to restorative justice values and principles
- Ready to commit a year to the RJ training and practice
- Can operate individually or with in a team
- Ability to travel unaccompanied, if needed
